DIGITAL PHONE (VOIP) FAQ

What is Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP)?
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a technology used to transmit voice and related calls over a data network. Most VoIP service providers use the public Internet to transmit your calls, but calls are transmitted over a private advanced broadband network. Using broadband technology, Platinum Communications is able to provide you with a number of enhanced new innovations, without sacrificing any of your current phone features or the call clarity you expect.

Will I need to purchase additional phones or equipment?
Customers with touch tone phones will not need to purchase new equipment. Simply plug the Platinum supplied adapter into a high speed internet connection. However depending on individual circumstances, you may require some complementary equipment. For example a router, phone system with multiple bases etc. The customer is not responsible for purchasing or leasing the equipment. Digital Phone service will not work with rotary phones. A $100.00 fee is applied for failure to return the adapter upon service cancellation.

How do I set up my new Digital Phone?

Can I keep my current phone number?
You may be able to keep your existing phone number with your brand new Digital Phone service. A Platinum representative can best determine if your number can be ported or not and if fees will apply.

If my electricity goes out, will I still be able to use my Digital Phone?
Platinum does strongly recommend that you have a secondary communications device available such as a cellular phone in the event of occasional network outage or unforeseen circumstances. A backup power supply device such as a Universal Power Supply (UPS) is an option for brief power outages.

Is there a service contract requirement?
No. You can experience the Digital Phone Service on a month-to-month plan. Bundle Digital Phone with Internet and save. Contact us for further information.

Are Digital Phone calls kept private?
Yes. By keeping the calls on their private broadband network, the broadband service providers are keeping the calls just as secure as with any other telephone provider.

Is the sound quality the same or better with Digital Phone?
You bet! Our digital communications network transmits a “clean” signal with less noise and distortion than many analog networks. Electronic filters are used and noise is essentially screened out of the signal so you get crisp, clear sound.

How is service different from the traditional phone service I have today?
Digital Phone service includes more features than traditional phone service at no additional charge. Using our advanced broadband network, we provide you with a number of enhanced new innovations without sacrificing any of your current phone features or the call clarity you expect. You may even be able to keep your current phone number and use your existing phones. Your Platinum representative can best determine if your number can be ported and if fees will apply.
